Trust is a Difficult thing to Give

But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you.  For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God My God.” Ruth 1:16

Ruth trusted that God would lead her down the path that was best for her. That is a difficult thing to give- Trust. When you can’t see what is ahead and you have no guarantees, trusting is really hard. Each of us in our life will come to a point where we wonder why we are on the path we are on. Where we question God and ask why? For me, I had to be broken so I could be healed. My first marriage was a hollow marriage to an abusive and broken man. My heart had separated from God and I drifted from one day to the next just wishing that things would change on their own, but they didn’t. I spent my days hoping that my then husband would not come home drunk, and my nights hoping that the day would end. My self esteem had been shattered and I was told repeatedly that I was worthless, but this man was wrong. One day when I felt more lost than I had ever been, I prayed. I asked God to help me find the courage to get out of the situation. I was scared and letting fear make my choices, but what I needed to do was have faith in God and follow the path he chose for me. I needed to see beyond my current situation (short term) and have faith in where I was being lead (big picture). God knows the big picture and our relationship with Him will only grow stronger when we give Him our trust and follow Him.

I’m sure each of us have had a time in our lives where we wonder what in the world God could be thinking? How could he lead us down THIS path? Where it seems like our world has come to an end and the best option is to give into fear, retreat and go with the path we know. But, this is not what God calls us to do. I like to think of God as a “little voice inside my heart”. We all have one and there are plenty of times we choose to ignore it, but it is God speaking to you and showing you what His will is. He knows so much more than we do and he tells us to have faith and trust in what He has chosen as our path…for our good…so we can prosper. It might not be the path we would choose (who am I kidding, it rarely is), but it is the path that will lead to a greater relationship with our Father and the life He wants us to lead.
Take a moment to pray. Thank our Father for guiding you and leading you down the path of faith and trust. Remember, there are never wrong words when you pray to our Father, for HE always knows what is in your heart.
