The Tempation

So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27

I’m sure we have all heard the story of creation and fall of man, probably one of the first Bible stories that we ever heard.

As I child, I can’t say I gave this story very much thought.  Only that the punishment God burdened mankind with seemed a little harsh; it was only an apple, for Pete’s sake!?!?  Now, as I reflect on this story at my, “more advanced” age, I can better understand the disappointment God must have had in His children’s blatant disregard of His wishes, and the loss of their innocence.

Satan appeared in the garden to the man and woman as a serpent.  He was cunning and conniving and was easily able to manipulate the woman who knew of no evil.  The serpent, who appeared to be so harmless, was easily able to lead the woman into committing the first sin against God.

I am sure most of us have lost sight of God’s Word at some time.  Unfortunately, Satan continues to tempt each one of us; he strives to command our attention and probably isn’t showing up as something as obvious as the serpent. We need to learn to recognize those “serpents” in our lives and avoid their influences.

We cannot change what happened in the Garden, however, we can exercise our free will and chose to follow God. Understand that Satan will take forms of those we believe we can trust and connive to direct us away from Him.  This is always our choice and we need to focus every day on following God’s word. It is only through our focus on Him that we can avoid the pitfalls that our own serpents present.
