God made several promises to Abraham in exchange for his obedience, faith and love. How many times have you made a promise, or watched someone make a promise that they haven’t kept? I thought hard about how many times in my life I have promised something and asked my kids if they ever made a promise. They told me stories of being told secrets that they didn’t share, or doing something for a friend- like letting them borrow something. The biggest promises I have made seemed to be wrapped up in someone that I love. The obvious one would be my marriage vows.
When I married my husband I promised to love him in the good times and bad, for better or worse, for richer or poorer and in sickness and in health. It is the most detailed promise I ever made. Every word of this promise is gift wrapped in love. The same way God promises Abraham to bless him and all his family. God takes his love and gift wraps the most beautiful promises for us. Let’s just start with His forgiveness. There is no sin too great that can keep the Father from forgiving you. I tell my kids all the time- there is nothing that you can do that will make me love you less. I would love to take credit for that little nugget, but I got it from a sermon. For me it was a realization that there isn’t anything I can do that will make God not keep his promises to me. Nothing will make him love me less. He will still wrap his promises to us in His unfailing love. In good times and bad, for better or worse, for richer or poorer and in sickness and in health. No matter what we do in this life, He keeps his promises to us and wraps them in his unfailing love.
